The War for Varaxia

Upon Xinmar, the technological wonder known as Varaxia has fallen into a territorial war with multiple sides seeking dominance. While some fight in hopes to simply end the war and bring Varaxia back to peace, others seek to make Varaxia their own, even if it means the lives of many are lost. One of the driving forces for the war is elaura, Xinmar’s magical flux that Varaxia was built upon. While elaura exists throughout the world and is exposed through rips on the land, its spots are rare, and relocating upon another elaura node would prove to be a challenge, especially against the primal yarza of the world. While the activity within Varaxia has yet to pose as a threat to Xinmar itself, there has been an increasing concern that the world could destabilize from the elaura being consumed by Varaxia’s needs.

What is Elaura?

As mentioned previously, elaura is the magical flux that gives Xinmar its magical properties. It flows through all of the world within underground veins, similar to a system of arteries and veins. Elaura is an amplifier to that which it affects, commonly causing mutation to whatever it comes into contact with. This explains why Xinmar is home to several more elemental yarza than Terrus, but a deeper question remains: What is the composition of elaura, and what is it used for? Several groups within Varaxia research elaura and its composition, but a strange result always comes up; every result of the anticipated elaura composition is different. Conclusive results show that elaura doesn’t  have a static, set-in-stone composition, and its primary contents can not be deciphered. Still, research for it continues without question.

Purpose of Elaura?

Elaura’s magical properties make it a valuable asset to a handful of Varaxia’s successful creations. The most notable of these breakthroughs is oxinium, a metallic alloy designed by Mekizon that is flexible in its use due to its lightweight, conductible, and nearly-impervious construction. Outside of the creation of oxinium, it’s an effective mutagen that is rumored to create effective bodily enhancements, and it’s also a vital asset for mechanical augmentation outside of Mirella’s secret knowledge.

The Four Factions

The war for Varaxia is between four different factions, all of which have different intentions for the elaura. While none of them have created alliances with another as of yet, that may change depending on the flow of battle.

The four factions of the war are…

---------------------------------------------------------

Mekizon‘s Armada

Leaders: Mekizon

Background: Even though he‘s the only elemental yarza within his group, Mekizon is a ruthless leader of his own armada, and while he is a singular commander, his power and intelligence are among the highest compared to the other leaders. He was the first to ignite the war due to his lust to control all of Varaxia after usurping its previous leaders of their power, all so he could have access to oxinium, a precious metal that is created in part with elaura. With it, Mekizon has become the strongest of the factions in the war, using his mechanical constructs and superior weaponry to pave his way through the opposition.

Goal: Alongside controlling all of Varaxia to lead under his command, Mekizon strives to achieve perfection of technology through the creation of oxinium. The traits of oxinium make it heavily desired by anyone willing to use machinery, and Mekizon uses it as a driving force for his power. His undying belief that he is a paragon fuels his desire to fight on for dominance, and his success thus far empowers those under his command, creating a mutual loop of confidence.

---------------------------------------------------------

Mordecai’s Resistance

Leaders: Mordecai, Mirella, Canus

Background: Mordecai and his bloodline were the first to fight against Mekizon’s tyrannical crusade through Varaxia, causing the first sides of the war to come forth. In Mordecai’s eyes, Varaxia deserves its minor democracy in which it thrived, not a monarchy of a yarza who would go to drastic measures to obtain what he would want. As more yarza within Varaxia agree with Mordecai’s opinion, his force grows stronger, but Mekizon’s army and resources are still greater than his. Thanks to Mirella’s scientific discoveries, Canus‘s engineering prowess, and many other gifted members of his army contributing to the resistance, Mordecai has several surprising tools to push Mekizon’s forces back despite the odds.

Goal: Mordecai seeks to return Varaxia back to the roots of which it prospered on. He doesn’t seek to abuse the elaura for anything, but rather eliminate Varaxia’s dependence on it for the keepsake of the planet.

---------------------------------------------------------

Psychonix

Characters: Psychon, Gemini, Justicar

Background: Psychonix is a group of scientific enthusiasts that seek the elaura for reasons outside of the production of oxinium. By using it as an amplifier, elaura fuels what Psychonix is known for; psychokinetic power. With it, they have constructed a psychokinetic barrier around their city to keep it protected from the other factions within the war, opening pieces of it to the outside when needed. While they don’t have much of an army, the three leaders all have psychic powers to aid them in combat, each capable of taking on hundreds without breaking much of a sweat. As Mekizon’s forces grow and the war continues to escalate, Psychonix holds its own defensive ground, waiting for their opportunity to strike.

Goal: Psychonix simply strives to obtain elaura for its research on psychokinetic capabilities. They have no intentions to harm others, but their desire to control the elaura that they currently possess forces them into combat on common occasion with Mekizon‘s machines. They have yet to have any direct interaction with the other faction leaders.

---------------------------------------------------------

Genetic Revolution

Characters: Edalb, Echon

Background: The Genetic Revolution is a militaristic group led primarily by Edalb, a genetic yarza imbued with the power of adrenaline to make him a living sword to cut down his foes. He created the revolution when he teamed up with Echon, a scientific engineer who saw Edalb’s commanding prowess to be a great asset to stop the war within Varaxia. Their force isn’t relatively large, but Edalb’s soldiers are elites, highly skilled in all aspects of combat and each of pristine value.

Goal: The Genetic Revolution is the only group that is interested in using elaura for experimentation upon themselves. It is rumored that a direct transfusion of elaura into an elemental yarza can cause a transformation to come forth, but such theories have yet to be proven. Edalb strives to be the first to subject himself to these tests in honor of his group, not to mention his growing curiosity drives him to find out just what the elaura will actually do to him.
This isn't a prologue of a story or anything, but it sets a base for stories to come. This little introduction outlines the situation within Varaxia, and it also mentions the characters involved. They may change slightly later on, but if anything changes, there will be a notified edit.
